When: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday mornings.
What: We are learning about Science and technology
and we have been experimenting with Floating and sinking.
Here are our finished Waka, we test them to see if they float or sink.

Owlcatraz

Hopefully you have had some feedback from your child at home about our great trip to Owlcatraz last week.  We were really lucky that the weather played it's part and we were able to have a fantastic day!!

Term 4 Newsletter

Ag Day preparation....

Here are our amazing shadow boxes starting to take shape!  You will have to wait until Saturday for the final results though!

Welcome to Term 4!

We hope you all had an enjoyable break with your children.... and what a great day to be starting the term!  The sun has showed itself today; which leads to the first of a few quick reminders....

- Hats!  These are compulsory this term.  Time to dig it out of the drawers....

- Please have a hunt for a house t-shirt for Ag Day on Saturday.  If your child will not be here, please let Mrs Durham in the office know.

- If your child is interested in entering a dog in the Dog Show, you need to follow the link and fill out the registration details:

- All of the equipment (cardboard/ craft items/ construction items) need to be at school from TUESDAY.  Cupcakes will be on Friday.  We would encourage you to have a chat with your child about what kind of cupcake they may like.... it must have a rural theme so it could either be an animal design or something you might find on the farm.  They only need to make one cupcake and EVERYTHING on the cupcake must be done at school.

Assembly last week

Thanks to all the parents who could make it to our assembly on Friday.  In case you missed it (or would like to see it again),  here are the movie clips that were used in the presentation.

(Just to clarify... the tiny red car is a courtesy car for Mrs Davies - while she is waiting for her other car to be repaired after a small car crash earlier in the term!)

Interviews in week 8...

In case you missed the message in this week's newsletter, here it is again.  Interviews are being held at school next week, and at this stage of the year students are also invited to attend to share their learning with you.

Publishing our stories....

For something a bit different this week, there was a bit of publishing going on in the Toa Pod.  Now we have a book made up of some of our wonderful writing, so that others can read them too!

Community survey

Don't forget to return your community survey to the office ASAP.  These forms are really important as they help us get feedback about the future goals and direction of the school.

There is also an awesome prize up for grabs for one lucky family who has their form returned by this Friday!! Be in to win!

Brag tags

So you may have heard about these things called Brag Tags... what are they you may ask!?  

This term everyone in the Toa Pod gets a Brag tag and during the term they may be given tags to add to their personal lanyard.  They are to recognise some of the Whakarongo Kid values that we feel are really important.... perseverance, kindness, patience, working hard, helping others.  Teachers will be giving out these tags through the term, only a few at a time.  The brag tags stay at school, but you are most welcome to come in and have a look!

Fractions feast...

Wow... what a great day we had on Thursday!  Our fractions feast was a lot of fun and the pizzas were really yummy. As you can see, everyone loved them.  Thank you so much to all our families for supplying all the ingredients!

Machinarium

We had a look at a really clever animated game today.  It is called Machinarium and it is a problem solving game.  The first part of the game can be accessed here if you are keen to have a look:

Ronald McDonald visit....

We were lucky to be visited by Ronald McDonald on Friday to speak to us all about Road Safety.  He kept everyone entertained and reminded us all to "Make it Click!"

School photo ticket....

Please check your child's book bag today... every child in the pod has had their individual photo taken.  You can check the photo by following the instructions on the ticket.  They can still be purchased online if you are interested....

Firewise!!

We have started talking about Safe and Unsafe fires this week.  If you are having a talk about this at home, the main points that we covered today are:

- A safe fire is controlled
- A safe fire is supervised by an adult
- A safe fire is one that everyone is aware of.

As an aside, Ben H bought his smoke alarm/detector in the newsbag today!!  Great timing Ben!

  

Market day this Wednesday

Just a quick notice to let you know that we will not be taking the Toa Pod children out to the Navigator Centre Market day at 2pm on Wednesday.  If you would like your child to attend you will need to take them from 3pm onwards, where you can supervise them yourself.

We would like to avoid missing money and/or children.  Thank you for your support!

Don't forget that the school interview site is up and running... please book in a time to see your child's homeroom teacher before the end of week 9 (1st April). We will be holding interviews on Tuesday and Wednesday of week 10.
